And 45% of the women suffer from hair thinning at some point in their life. So what I seek to do for you here is to try and give to some basic information about hair loss to help you navigate this difficult task of finding some credible information and credible advice. So that you can find a way out of it.

Why My Hair Falls When I Wash Them?

Finding hairs in the shower recess or on the pillow is the most worrisome problems face by almost everyone at some point in their life. There are two possible reasons for the same A) Hair Shedding, B) Hair Loss. It is very important for you to understand that there is a difference between hair shedding which is a normal part of our every day to day life. And actual hair loss is when you lose either the strength of the shaft which is the thickness of the hair (typically happens first) or you lose the number of hairs on the scalp.

Now there are various, let’s say, agents that add fuel to fire i.e., increasing the rate of hair shedding or hair loss.

Let us discuss them one by one…

1. Water Quality

A common cause of excessive hair loss that many people are unaware of is using hard water for shampooing their hair. The excessive amount of calcium and magnesium present in hard water leads to dry scalp, dandruff, and ultimately hair loss or hair thinning. The contents of hard water make the hair follicles dry, frizzy, and brittle leading to hair thinning and loss.

2. The Shampoo You Are Using

Shampoo, believe it or not, is often the root excuse the pun of hair loss. There is, of course, a certain irony there.

It is definitely possible for certain shampoo formulas to contribute to hair loss. Some shampoo formulas contain sulfates and other intense or toxic ingredients that cause hair fall.

3. Heat In Any Form Is Bad for Your Hair

One needs to avoid the harmful chemical treatments that include the application of heat to the hair strands. So take a hot water bath, excessive use of a hairdryer or hair straightening machine should be avoided as it strips them of their natural shine and moisture.

4. Try Not To Use Too Many Hair Products

There are many hair products available in the market but very few of them actually have natural ingredients that do not have any side effects. My advice for you would be to try only natural and chemically safe hair care products.

And if you are using them, make sure that you clean off the hair products before going to sleep at night.

5. Scalp Infection

Fungal infection in hair roots may cause hair loss by weakening the hair follicle. Another type of infection is caused by ringworm also causes temporary hair loss by spreading over scalps leaving white patches.

6. Gentle Oil Massage

Make sure while applying oil on the scalp you gently massage it. This ensures blood circulation in the scalp and helps reduce hair fall. Rubbing wet hair vigorously leads to hair breakage. So avoid brushing wet hair.

7. Hairstyles

Yes, hairstyles can be guilty of your hair loss. Avoid pulling your hair tightly all the time as it puts a lot of pressure and reduces the use of harmful oils, colors as it can cause permanent hair loss.

8. Poor Diet

Insufficient diet and diet devoid of essential fatty acids, proteins, and nutrition can lead to significant hair loss problems. It is best to maintain a healthy diet either for men or women for healthy hair.

9. Hormonal Changes

It is the most common cause which is noticed in both men and women. The imbalance in hormonal secretions in the bloodstream may cause heavy hair loss temporarily. And in this context, thyroxine or the thyroid gland plays a key role.

Difference Between Hair Shedding And Hair Loss?

A lot of people complain about the hair that they found in their shower recess after doing a shampoo or comb and that actually is hair shedding. So hair shedding means the hair has finished growing and it detaches from the skin and it falls out. The thing to understand here is that every hair on your head has to do this at some stage. shedding rate is influenced by many factors of which your gene is most accountable.

It is quite important to know that the normal range between people of daily shedding is between 50 to 100 hairs per day, which most people find hard to believe. But mathematically it is quite true.

The thing you need to understand is that we all have hairs on our heads and they all go through a cycle. The hair grows to a certain length and at one point it comes to the end of its cycle and falls out. And then the next hair gets ready to grow following the same cycle. Thankfully, not all the hair on our head follows the exact same cycle meaning that we don’t lose all the hair overnight. This is because different hair falls out at various different rates.

So HAIR SHEDDING, when in a normal cycle when the hair is finished growing 3, 4 or 5 years and it falls out, an identical thickness of the hair will replace it 3 months later and grow out at normal rate.

Whereas HAIR LOSS  is when you lose either the strength of the shaft which is the thickness of the hair (typically happens first) or you lose the number of hairs on the scalp. The normal number of hair on the scalp varies between ninety-five & a hundred and five thousand hair. But only 90% of them are growing and 10% of them are cycling in that in-between cycling phase. So hair loss means less than a normal number or less than normal quality.

Conclusion

A human being on average may lose up to 50-100 strands of hair every day. This is quite normal. But, if you feel that the extent of hair fall is beyond that, then yes, you may have a condition. Most often than not, the reason for hair fall may be the fact that we do not take adequate care of our hair. So it is recommended to keep the hair clean and healthy.
