Baby's Legs And Hands Are Darker Than His/Her Face

Most newborn babies are relatively fair and even pink. But depending on race and genes, the baby’s skin then changes to the real color with age.

Many babies have a darker body especially the legs and hands as compared to the face. It’s very common as exposed parts of the body have different colors than the unexpired parts which are normal. Sun exposure might be a possible cause as it temporarily tans the skin. But the effect is not permanent on babies. And regular sun exposure is adequate for  Vitamin D to help build stronger bones.

Every child is unique and has a different pattern of development. The darker complexion of the baby’s legs and hands is completely normal and there is no need to worry.

Skin Colour Of New Born Baby

When a baby is firstborn, the skin is a dark red to purple color. As the baby begins to breathe air, the color changes to red. This redness normally begins to fade on the first day. A baby’s hands and feet may stay bluish in color for several days. This is a normal response to a newborn’s immature blood circulation.

Changes In Skin Colour With Age

Babies might be paler, pinker, or blotchier in the very beginning than they will be later in babyhood.

The actual skin color of different humans is affected by many substances, although the single most important substance is the pigment Melanin. The blotchy appearance of skin color in the face and hands of older people is due to the uneven distribution of pigment cells and changes in the interaction between melanocytes and keratinocytes.
